fennesz writes: seven stars was recorded in vienna in january 2011. i recorded and mixed the album within 3 weeks. liminal and july were existing pieces which i have reworked. back in 1998 this was probably just about the wrongest record you had ever heard … and it has to be said that not much has changed. forshaw has a knack of turning out ridiculously hard and mangled electro and techno tracks – but still managing to make them sound >poppy<. sometimes, as in the case of rockford for example, it is because he uses well recognisable (but unexpected) samples. but more often it is just because he manages to make tunes (no matter how hard) that make you stop gurning and start smiling.

return to form (take that, haters!) hits at the body repeatedly, slamming away with a lack of abandon and a new sense of protocol. major stars are known for being psychedelic rock journeymen (and journey lovin women), but of late, their rocks psych roots seem to be dyed platinum white, with a truckers cap shoved on top of the whole mess. its jukebox ready hard rock with a hallucinogenic edge, sure ? or perhaps its just the impact of their triple guitar git down, causing your head to throb with concussive force? dont worry, long time star children ? these guys still jam, but they ve got short numbers too, and wailing, roadhouse vocals sailing over the punch ups. a terrific variety, but a return to form? pffft! what form? these guys have been in plasma state forever! whatever form it takes, thats what it is. and major stars are presently shining on in white dwarf style ? compacted, but with a violent gleam.
